In my study we have at least one laptop and an Apple iMac all the time. And it would come in handy if I could output quality audio to my stereo not just by using the Apple Airport Express but also from other sources than iTunes.
I found his DAC on eBay, and it was very cheap although it uses quality components for the DAC and its receiver. What also comes in handy: It does not require a channel received but apparently trusts me to use one input at a time.

Dimensions: 110 x 80 mm
DAC: CS4398
Receiver: CS8416
Opamp: 5532
Seller: eBay
As said before, building the kit is not that easy at all. Fortunately I received some more material/documents from the eBay seller:
The pictures of the finished DAC are following below... For the moment I have just mounted the whole thing on a piece of wood I had laying around. I now it is not pretty, but at the moment I have more DACs around than input on my amplifiers so it makes no sense to have all of them in a nice case.
As you can see I just changed some of the kit capacitors for some "better" ones I had in stock.
The power requirements are simple for this DAC, only a single supply of 15-0-15Vac is needed.
