Intro

Some time ago, on diyaudio.com, BrianGT offered to make PCB's for a non-inverted clone. It was based on the "standard" and most simple schema as found in National's M3875 Datasheets.

After receiving one of the version 0 PCB's as a reward for answering a poll, I found that the PCB really makes life very easy when it comes to building your own clone.

Since then, Brian has expanded his offerings and now not only ships an updated version of the PCB but also all relevant components like the LM3875, resistors and capacitors.

Once I received the board and components assembling the kit was a piece of cake and took half an hour or so. After that, it was time to start worrying about finding a useful application for the amp, after all the looks are quite good and you want to know whether it sounds good as well.

On the left you see a picture of the finished board to which I added the optional zobel network consisting of the blue capacitor of 100nF and the large green resistor of 2.7Ohms/2Watt.

Design

This is going to be a really simple project, meant only for me to test the kit and find out whether kit design would be beneficial for my projects as well. I really like the way Brian has put together the PCB and probably I would like to design my own PCB's (with tubes btw).

This is the schema for the amp:

I bought the "luxe" kit containing the expensive Caddock resistors and the N-type Black Gate capacitors.

Should you want to build an amp based on a read-to-go PCB, there are several versions available at this moment on the market. The PCB boards themselves are relatively cheap, it's the choice of components, especially the transformer and the capacitors that make the price.
